Welcome to my new website and blog: Digital Barrett!
I, Kathryn Barrett, will be your host and tour guide.
Each day I intend to share a photo with you. Since I’m just getting this site rolling, I am going to post from past photo shoots and new ones as they come up.
Today’s photo is a horse getting hot shoes. This is farrier Dean Lewis applying new shoes. Traditionally, the iron shoe is heated in a forge and then applied to the bottom of the foot. This method seals the bottom of the foot and ensures a tight fit with the shoe. Heating the shoe also allows the shoe to be easily manipulated.
I love how the smoke curls from under the shoe and through the old nail holes in the horse’s foot.
